Cine a fost cu adevarat Ioan Botezatorul?

A fost cel mai mare dintre sfinti, pescarul de suflete si cel care l-a botezat pe insusi Iisus, fiul lui Dumnezeu – dar daca am putea afla ceva mai mult decat atat despre aceasta figura centrala din crestinism si islam?

O parte dintre izvoarele care il mentioneaza ne poarta catre o grupare spirituala care il revendica pe Ioan Botezatorul drept Mesager ceresc: mandeenii.

Acestia, al caror nume inseamna literal „gnostici” (manda = gnōsis), sunt singura comunitate supravietuitoare cunoscuta a gnozei vechi, o cunoastere care deschide o perspectiva a revelatiei, a initierii in misterele spiritului divin. Doctrinele mandeene sunt cuprinse in cateva colectii de texte care contin principalele idei ale acestora: Genza (Comoara) sau Sidra Rabba (Cartea cea mare); Sidra d’Yahya (Cartea lui Ioan) sau Drashē d’Malkē (Cuvantari ale regilor); Qolasta (Culegere), careia i se da, de asemenea, numele de Sidra d’Nismata (Cartea sufletului).

Cartea lui Ioan Botezatorul este una dintre cele mai importante scrieri mandeene, completand imaginea lui Ioan si a climatului spiritual existent in acele vremuri.

Astfel avem oportunitatea sa aflam in ce relatie se afla religia mandeeana cu alte religii cum ar fi: mazdeismul, iudaismul, crestinismul, maniheismul si islamul.

Aflam deci care sunt punctele comune si cele care fac diferenta intre ele, si mai ales cum completeaza acestea cunostintele despre personalitatea exceptionala a lui Ioan si a practicii botezului.
